FAQs
1) I already have a team of players from another league. Can we remain together and join up?
A: Yes. Simply apply as a team manager with the League President, register your squad and pay the appropriate fee.
2) What does it cost to participate?
A: Team fees vary from year to year depending on the costs of fields, baseballs, umpires, insurance and other expenses.
On average it costs about $250 per player, which includes membership in the National MSBL. Player fees make up the team fee and that will vary, too, but on average are about $2,500 for the season. Fees are due in full before the first game. Beginning in 2008 umpires are to be paid by each team at the start of each game.
3) What kind of fields do you play on and where are they?
A: We contract only the best available baseball fields in the Denver metropolitan area. Yearly our fields include Regis University, Metropolitan State College and some of the nicest private and public diamonds, north and south, and several have breathtaking backdrops of the Rockies!
4) How many games do you play and when?
A: Our season runs from April to September, like major league baseball, and typically games are played on Sundays, though there may be a night game or two during the week depending on schedule need and rainout makeups. Games usually are at 9 am, noon and 3 pm. We do not play on Mother's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day weekends. We do play on Father's Day. There are 18 regular season games followed by a two-tiered double-elimination tournament at season's end.
5) Are there uniform requirements such as restrictions on t-shirts and sweats?
A: Yes. Our league is based on the professionalism of MLB so the uniforms must represent that high standard. You don't have to spend a great deal of money on them but they should be representative of the majors. Rule of thumb: if it looks like a softball league uni, it's not acceptable.
6) What if a player gets injured during a game? Is there insurance coverage?
A: Yes. Each team and its rostered players are insured for liability and medical coverages through polices obtained from the National MSBL. These coverages are supplemental and secondary to any medical insurance the players may already have privately. Coverage is for travel to and from a game as well as any sanctioned event such as a team practice.
7) How about a fan injured by a foul ball?
A: Yes, they are covered as well, as long as the injury is the result of a scheduled MSBL game or event.
8) What if my windshield is hit by a ball and cracks, will the league insurance cover it?
A: No. Our carrier is specific that ballplayers know the dangers of parking near a baseball field, so should park at a safe location. However, a fan's car windshield would be covered.
9) What if I'm drafted by a team I don't want to play for?
A: Our By-Laws are very clear that new players are required to play on their drafting team the first year. After that, players are free agents who can sign with any team.
10) Do I have to re-enter the draft if I was previously an MSBL member but missed a season or more?
A: No. Once a free agent always a free agent. Merely contact league officers for a list of manager contacts.
